Guitarist Tomaž Rajterič was born in Ljubljana, where he began his musical education at the age of eight. He started taking guitar lessons at the age of ten. Later he studied in Geneva, Lausanne and Salzburg (his teachers included Rus, Sao-Marcos, Linhares, Fisk and Bream).

He began performing in public at an early age and participated in competitions for young musicians, winning many top prizes. While still in his teens, he also received awards at major international competitions (Sablé, Belgrade, Rio de Janeiro).

He now performs in solo recitals and chamber ensembles, most often in duo with distinguished instrumentalists and singers. He appears in Slovenia and other European countries, as well as in South America, the USA and Asia.

He has been a guest at various international guitar festivals and has appeared as a guest soloist with orchestras such as Solisti di Zagreb, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Symphony Orchestra of Radio and Television Slovenia, and the Slovenian Philharmonic.

He is known for his sensitive interpretations and is equally devoted to different stylistic periods — from Renaissance music and Baroque masters including Bach, through classical and romantic repertoire, to popular Spanish and Latin American composers, as well as contemporary guitar works.

He is also a favored performer of many Slovene composers, whose works he frequently premieres and enthusiastically includes in his concert programmes.

The press has confirmed his position as one of the leading Slovene performers:

“His playing has a cantabile quality and purity… his excellent characteristics are meditative depth and dynamic calmness combined with a great sense of artistic shaping and resonance.”

Delo, Ljubljana

He has released three solo CDs: one featuring works by Albéniz and Villa-Lobos, another presenting a selection of twentieth-century guitar repertoire, and a third dedicated to music by contemporary Slovene composers. He also regularly records for the archive of Radio Slovenia.

Alongside his concert career, he serves as a professor at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana.
